biography

Some sort of grunge/prog rock style person with serious investment in trip-hop and other random genres also...

I am torn between Chris Cornell and Gary Numan... both so awesome... can't sing or write like either, much to my annoyance...

Forming

June 1st, 2007 + 5:06 PM  ·  RedIguana

This piece was improvised to the greatest extent you can when you're playing all the instruments... so I sat behind the drums and jammed for a while then did the same with bass, guitar, vocals etc. Then I added the little extra bits in...
The vocals in the background are from a 30minute ambient piece I did on an entirely different day to help me get to sleep... I thought they'd go well behind the song.... give its some texture, like some of the stuff devin townsend puts behind a SYL song sometimes. I fully appreciate that the mixing/editing/ tempo varies throughout the song, and that there are mistakes... but i've kinda come to like them... hope you do too!

Another song that wants a title...

August 25th, 2006 + 5:08 PM  ·  RedIguana

Ahoy, here's one I wrote way back in '03, it's sort of a happy punk song. It was originally called "Of Life", but I just don't like that one, and I'm stuck for a better one, more than taking a random object and calling it that, which is what I normally do when I'm stuck (yielding such titles as Marbles and Carbonara, lol). Tell me what you think.

It makes just as much sense as the writing on the walls, which informs me of another time,
A time when love was love or love was hate and I had too much on my plate and I was already full.

Go away and think of flowers, marble towers in the sand
Stay by me and know that you are thinking of them all alone (or along)

Fill me right up to the brim with your daily paranoia, I revel in the sleeping time, except at night; it's far too quiet,
I never know which way I'm facing but it's always in the wind and when my face becomes confused it's stuck I cannot break it.

Go away and think of flowers, marble towers in the sand
Stay by me and know that you are thinking of them all alone (or along)

Untitled song in want of title...

August 16th, 2006 + 12:08 PM  ·  RedIguana

Ahoy... these lyrics are a product of (semi) automatic writing, so they dont appear to be very coherent as a whole and probably employ a lot of metaphor that's built into my psyche... if you go in for psychology....

Anyway, the song is all written but has no name, and I'm a bit stumped to be honest, so any help would be appreciated, and of course tell me what you like/dislike about them...

Hopefully I'm going to record the actual song with my band soon, so that'll be posted at some point with any luck...

here you go:

Beautiful desk of plastic wood
No food for thought but what I carry
This heat is draining, undercover, super-sized
The air hits me and I have to say good bye

Clever monkey be the clown; dance a round, red overalls
Very peaceful monkey, say nothing at all

This shadow flag to cut my hair, in bondage to pledge allegiance
Firefly night in that local place
Sinners and play-writes singing of big snow-covered tree
Terracotta red

Let’s go down to the practice room; it’s our inside riverside
Bed down; make me a pallet on your floor

Recording on my "lovely" laptop...

August 11th, 2006 + 4:08 PM  ·  RedIguana

(this is my first ever post! woo for me...)

Hello...

I have this problem when I record with my laptop... It's incredibly annoying...
When I record using the microphone socket (not the best way by any stretch of the imagination, I know, but its all I can use at the moment) I get this horrible buzzing on all the tracks if I leave the power cable in the PC (ie. so it doesn't have to run on batteries). I often record quite long pieces, and so as you can imagine, a warning noise from the PC telling me the power is low after a couple of tracks is really quite annoying, to put it mildly.

I record using the output of a little mixing desk going into the microphone socket of my Dell laptop, on which I use cubase.

Could someone suggest a method of recording or piece of apparatus that would stop the horrible buzz I get on the recordings when I leave the power in the PC?

Thanks
